Are you turning to food when you feel sad, overwhelmed or angry? Are you unhappy with your physical appearance and tried of fighting with your body and your weight? Well join the club. Millions of Americans, including major A-list celebrities like Oprah Winfrey and Rebel Wilson, struggle with weight and food issues because they eat for emotional reasons. The good news is that emotional overeating can end and you can be restored to health, beauty and peace of mind.

We eat for two reasons: because we are physically hungry or because we are emotionally hungry.

When we are physically hungry, food will satisfy our need and we can move on.

When we are emotionally hungry, no amount of food will satisfy us and we get stuck.

The way to end emotional eating is to learn to differentiate physical hunger from emotional hunger and address each appropriately: Eat when you are physically hungry and deal with your emotions when you are emotionally hungry.

When emotional issues are dealt with directly, they can be resolved and the need to eat to cope with them goes away along with that stubborn excess weight.

5 Tips for Overcoming Emotional Overeating:

  • Let yourself get hungry so you know what hungers feels like for you – that’s physical hunger
  • When you are physically hunger, eat!
  • When you want to eat but are not feeling physical hunger, ask yourself: “what do I really want?” – that’s emotional hunger
  • Identify ways to meet that real need.
  • Do one!
