The Zeta Female: Choosing Collaboration over Competition
Guestpert: Marion Skeete
Category: Woman's Issues

Speaking Point: The Zeta Female is in direct contrast to the Alpha Male, who is the epitome of drivenness and rugged individualism. Instead she chooses collaboration over competition and interdependence over independence.

Speaking Point: Competition can be healthy. It inspires people toward their true potentials. I come from the nation of Trinidad & Tobago whose claim to fame is a two-time recipient of the Miss Universe pageant, Olympic gold medalists and home for the creation of the world-renowned steel drum.

Speaking Point: Competition is mostly dangerous as it undermines the basic trust that is needed to form long-term relationships—which is at the fabric of every society.

Speaking Point: “Who’s the Fairest of Them All?” Competition between women is often spawned by systems of patriarchy that pit women against each other, and ultimately against themselves.

Speaking Point: Women are naturally “wired” for collaboration. God made women with breasts. A woman’s breasts speak of her innate resourcefulness—her ability to comfort and to feed. In that way, a woman is often unconsciously directed by a spiritual mandate to share resources, understanding her personhood as the greatest resource.

Speaking Point: Women are reproductive. Her ability to birth and nurture children and future generations often gives a woman a relational perspective vs. an individualistic one. Because a woman naturally sees herself as a life-giver as well as a sustainer of life, she gets continuity and her irreplaceable role in the perpetuation of the human race.

Speaking Point: Collaboration flies in the face of the SuperWoman complex, and the performance issues that leave most women leaders bitter and unfulfilled.

Speaking Point: Collaboration acknowledges our need for “otherness” while affirming our individual worth. Collaboration is not co-dependency. Rather, it is interdependency.
