Daily "To Do's" for a Balanced Life

Speaking Point: With so many family, social and financial pressures today, most people struggle to achieve a sense of balance. In fact, it's nearly impossible which is why people turn to prescription drugs, alcohol or other forms of stress relief. Here are some simple to do's that can put the power of balance back in your hands. STRIVE TO ACHIEVE BALANCE DAILY BY: A. Start with drinking 8 ounces of water, with lemon, if possible. This helps you clean out your system and hydrate you before you start your day. Then have a power juice or breakfast. Your eating habits play a crucial part in creating and keeping a balanced life.

Speaking Point: B. Exercise. A big part of being balanced is exercising—stretching, walking, weight-lifting, hiking, dancing – anything that gets you moving and toning your body.

Speaking Point: C. Learn to say "No." Most of us have too much going on and no willpower to decline requests for help or added responsibilities. Review your schedule and set limits on how much time you spend on outside obligations.

Speaking Point: D. Sleep. Sleeping allows your body to recharge after a full day. In order to wake up refreshed and prepared to face the next day, you need to let your body repair with good sleep. Even if you have to write it into your schedule, aim for at least seven hours a night.

Speaking Point: E. Make time for you. Being caught up with work and family obligations leaves us little time to unwind. Even 10 minutes a day of time spent just on yourself can help keep your body and mind balanced. A good goal to reach would be at least 20 minutes, twice a day, of uninterrupted "you time."

Speaking Point: F. Appreciate what is around you. Negativity is everywhere, from co-workers and kid complaints, the news and other media. Take time to tally up the good things around you and focus on as many positive things as you can.

Speaking Point: G. Prioritize what means the most to you. Take a moment to figure out what you need to put more of your energies into to make you feel complete and secure.
