Does Your Child Have Fears based on the News?
Guestpert: Christy Whitman
Category: Psychology and Self Help
  JJI Seal of Approval

Speaking Point: Has your child expressed a fear about something he saw on the news or heard about from friends? Was he rattled by images of 9/11? Has he seen the anti-smoking/cancer commercials and become concerned that someone he knows will become sick? Has he seen kidnapping stories on the news and become increasingly scared of strangers? The Enlightened Kid Program can help both parents and children get through these fears.

Speaking Point: The Enlightened Kid Program will help both parents and children through giving them a basis of empowering beliefs. When bad news shows up in their lives they will know how to connect with a future that is happy and bright. If they have a belief that they are powerful to create their own life experiences, they will not worry or fear when they hear contrasting stories. If they do experience fear or anxiety based on the news, they will know how to identify those emotions and how to release them so they don't stay focused. They will learn how to focus on what they do want and what feels good to them.

Speaking Point: Whenever someone is feeling fear, anxiety, doubt, or frustration it is because they are projecting into a future that they don't want. Even if the future is five minutes from now, if they know that all good is happening for them in their lives, they will feel happy.

Speaking Point: Five Doorways: If you can image that there are five doors in front of you and each door represents a different type of future such as bad, good, mediocre, great, awesome you will see that as you are facing those doors you feel a certain way. If you are facing the door to the future that is awesome you feel good, relaxed and happy. Worry, fear, and anxiety all is removed and replaced with excitement and positive expectation.

Speaking Point: Imagine driving down a road where you can't see up ahead. You don't know what is coming. The road is dark and windy and you have to drive very cautiously. How do you feel? Now imagine driving down a road that is wide and very open. The sun is shining and you can see for miles up ahead of you. How do you feel now? The same is true for when we are looking towards our future. When a child hears of something that scares them, they think it can happen in their future. It is important to deliberately choose the type of future we want to experience. Show the child that the dark scary thing that happened will not be their future.

Speaking Point: The Enlightened Kid Program teaches both parents and children how to focus on a future that is empowering them.
