Speaking Point: Successful venture capitalist Russell Armstrong was found dead in his Los Angeles home Monday night, apparently by his own hand. Was he really "successful", or was he in financial trouble? Did the participation in the show lead to his death? Did he exhibit any warning signs of suicide. This empowerment and suicide prevention expert, Christy Whitman says, "Yes. There are clear signs that he could possibly commit suicide." Speaking Point: Authorities did not find a suicide note for Russell Armstrong and the fact is the the majority of people that commit suicide do not leave a note. If they sit down to write out a note, it makes them think about the people they are leaving behind and then they don't go through with it. When someone is suicidal they are only thinking of themselves and the light at the end of the tunnel they will finally have when they end their life. Speaking Point: There were a few of warning signs that the media is not picking up on. First, his very famous reality show star wife just filed for divorce. So he was experiencing the loss of a marriage, but also it was very public. His reputation was also in question because of the abuse allegations. Having a loss like this, coupled with the fact that he was "exposed" is devastating. In addition there were also financial issues. His future looked pretty grim by the events in his life. Financial issues coupled with a loss of a marriage are big warning signs for someone who is not emotional and mentally stable. Speaking Point: When someone is looking at a very dark future, which seemed to be the case for Russell Armstrong, there is not a lot of hope. When someone that is already depressed has no hope for a future filled with love, companionship, success, and support what other choices do they have? Speaking Point: Depression is the underlying disease that causes someone to take their own life. Any other events that happen to a person that is already depressed is a recipe for disaster.
